On Saturday night on a cool winter’s night a friendly soccer game was held between the Melbourne Nepali team and Shepparton’s Malayalee team for a fun social game of soccer. It was a close game 2-1 with Shepparton as winners. Bishal Kunwar, of Shepparton organised the game, a first between the first communities to connect the city team with regional Victoria and to have fun together playing the game they all love. At the end of the game Nepalese scarves were presented, a trophy and token of love. It truly was a great night for both players and family on the sidelines.
“Soccer is something it’s in my blood. I loved it since my childhood. We used to play barefoot in village with paper wrapped ball in socks. Even in monsoon rain running around villages in Naudada just to play. It is going to be with me forever. We play every Tuesday . We have a big team now. We have created a true friendship between two communities by same passion its lovely and simple. We will continue to grow and create and relationship via sports”, Bishal says. “Roshan Xavier, team captain of Shepparton FC in association with the Shepparton Malayalam community have hosted this match. When we play Tuesday matches we have players from Malaysia, Africa, Nepal, Fiji and other nations too. We have all connected together and have fun every Tuesday night playing and bonding.“
