Hear My Heart Project
by Liz Arcus, Photographer & Dianne Watson, Counsellor of Relationships Australia Victoria
A collection of photographs and words of the “hear my heart” project was held to give a voice to those who have experienced abuse in their life
Women were hand selected by Relationships Australia and Vincent Care to be part of this project. The women were guided by experienced counsellor to explore their hearts whilst sharing thoughts and feelings. The journey and going through the process of the program was just as important as the exhibition. We believe that this project is a way to help women in their journey of recovery.
Protecting the women’s anonymity was very important and this is why their faces are not shown.
The exhibition first opened as part of the SheppARTon festival in March,2012 in Shepparton, Victoria. The project featured in U.S in September 2012 and at the ‘No to Violence’ National Conference in Melbourne in November, 2012. The project then was exhibited for the month of May 2013 at Mooroopna Hub- a community meeting place.
The exhibition has been described as place of healing. Many people, both young and old have expressed they have been moved deeply and inspired in many different ways.
