NAIDOC Welcoming Ceremony and tour of The Flats – Mooroopna, Victoria

“We all stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect & Celebrate”
Happy NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.  NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It was great to share with many others at the welcoming ceremony and breakfast at Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative this morning. Then this afternoon my friend Soofia and I went on the walking tour of The Flats.Uncle Leon has spent much time over the years I have known him sharing the Aboriginal history of this area but to walk together and hear this again with about sixty other people was really powerful.
I always learn something each time I attend these events, through what I see and the conversations I have. Each time what rings through loud and clear is respect and connection to the earth. It is always a reminder to me and a deeper learning that I am very grateful for. Thank you
